Sexual Diversity Museum – MDS
In January 2025, I brought the Museological and Educational Enhancement Project, supported by the Paulo Gustavo Law of the State of São Paulo, to the Sexual Diversity Museum (MDS)—a crucial space for building dissident narratives within Brazilian museology. From January 15th to 17th, between 6 PM and 9 PM, I taught a training course in cultural mediation, focusing on inclusive practices, decolonial approaches, and welcoming strategies for LGBTQIAPN+ audiences.
This initiative was carried out in partnership with the MDS Entrepreneurship Center and attracted a significant number of participants eager to rethink their roles in museums and cultural institutions. The experience was so impactful that it led to the article “The Construction of LGBT Museology through the Bajubá Exhibition,” which I presented at the CONIC 2025 seminar. The text builds upon the course discussions to explore dissident curatorships and mediation as a political practice.
The MDS proved to be a fertile platform for rethinking museology through concrete lived experiences and the multiplicity of bodies, voices, and narratives that challenge institutional space. As part of the project’s public contribution, the Cultural Mediation Guide will be widely distributed by the museum, helping to extend the dialogue and circulate the knowledge produced within the museum community and the broader public.
